Half of My Heart / Dreams (Fleetwood Mac cover)ġ3. In Your Atmosphere (LA Song) / Something’s Missing (Acoustic)ġ2. Here’s the set list and some corresponding YouTubes:Ħ. I don’t think much of the audience got it, but I appreciated it. A pretty good performance of a Bob Dylan song. For a little while I was confused and then I realised what the song was. The Bob Dylan cover was a bit of a surprise. I’m not keen on that song but it was performaed so well that I had to like it as what it is – a sweet/mushy song of the likes that my boyfriend when I was 21 would have written. He also introduced Wonderland in a way that I knew what was coming – something like “I’m dragging this one out of the mental institute”.

I was blown away by LA song, even though he stuffed it up (after starting the song by telling is he might stuff it up). I’m surprised he didn’t try to play the guitar with his teeth or set it on fire. Even though I knew it was going to be the last song, it seemed to go forever with a big Jimi-esqu ending. Gravity was a big sing-along moment with a call and response. Gravity became I’ve Got Dreams to Remember by Otis Redding, rather than the other way around. There were a lot of sing-along moments – Half of my Heart became Dreams by Fleetwood Mac. I think the only other disappointment for me, apart from his daggy jacket, was that there was no screen in the Entertainment Centre, so no close-ups.

My workmate didn’t like his huge pants and asked why he couldn’t just wear jeans like a normal person. The crowd cheered when he finally took it off. I swear there were shoulderpads involved.

He came out in this horrible 80s inspired oversized white dinner jacket. And the talent! zOMG he just gets better on guitar all the time. Even while playing he’d sneak in a few little jokes with his guitar for people in the know. I have a few DVDs of his previous shows and he was just as great – charismatic, joking with the audience, dancing around. John was awesome! I am biased, but I was really happy that I’d gone to see him live. I had been joking about screaming out “We love you John!” halfway through the concert but I heard a few boys do it during the night, which sent us into fits of giggles. High heels, tights, tops worn as dresses. I don’t spend a lot of time with teenagers. Half teeny boppers, coz lets face it teenagers buy most of the music, then half older people. It’s not my kind of music but she’s a good performer and I could tell why she was chosen as support when she went off playing solos on the guitar – so much talent. Unfortunately that never happened but she’s in the pop charts at the moment with a couple of catchy songs I had heard before. The support was Orianthi – an Australian pop singer who had been chosen by Michael Jackson to play guitar on his 2010 tour. By the time we left the concert she was gushing about how wonderful he is. She hadn’t heard the best press about him and mostly knew him from hearing Wonderland years ago. A friend from work said she would go with me, not because she likes John Mayer but because she likes live music. On Saturday, as a birthday present to myself, I went to see John Mayer at the Entertainment Centre.
